Panthers’ WR Kelvin Benjamin suffered concussion vs Bengals
Rookie wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin suffered a concussion against the Cincinnati Bengals
When Panthers rookie wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin received a big hit from Cincinnati Bengals defender Vontaze Burfict in the end zone, many assumed he was concussed after being forced to leave the game.
Those folks were right as Panthers head coach Ron Rivera was diagnosed with a ‘mild concussion’ on Monday despite passing concussion tests taken during Sunday’s game.
"Burfict apparently was successful in injuring Panthers rookie wideout Kelvin Benjamin, who is dealing with post-concussion symptoms following a hit by Burfict in Sunday’s 37-37 tie at Cincinnati.Burfict was penalized for unnecessary roughness for the second-quarter hit on Benjamin, who left the game following the 7-yard completion. Benjamin returned after missing two plays after passing the in-game concussion tests, according to Panthers coach Ron Rivera.“That’s the only reason he went back in the game,” Rivera said.Rivera said Benjamin came to the stadium with a headache Monday morning, and was placed in the concussion protocol. Rivera called it a “mild” concussion."

Hit with the tough task of replacing Panthers legend Steve Smith, rookie receiver Kelvin Benjamin has done a decent job of filling in those shoes. Through the first six games of Benjamin’s career, the receiver has caught 31 receptions for 416 yards and 4 touchdowns. He’s currently first on the team in yards and second in receptions and touchdowns behind tight end Greg Olsen.
According to Rivera, Benjamin is probably for Sunday’s matchup in Green Bay.
If Benjamin is unable to go, the Panthers will have to rely on veterans Jason Avant and Jerricho Cotchery to step up in his absence
