The Drought Ends – Sept. 26, 2014

At this point, the Kansas City Royals were simply trying to get into the postseason.

The AL Central was a dogfight down to the final week, with the Detroit Tigers desperately trying to keep the Royals at bay, and the AL Wild Card picture wasn’t much clearer, with the Seattle Mariners and Cleveland Indians nipping at KC’s figurative heels entering the last week.

A 3-1 victory against the Chicago White Sox on September 26 got the hard part out of the way — the 29-year drought was over, and the Royals would return to the MLB postseason for the first time since 1985.

Kansas City didn’t know if they would be the AL champs or simply in the Wild Card on September 26, but they were back, and honestly, not a whole lot else mattered.

The Royals wound up as the AL’s top Wild Card, and after 29 long years, Kansas City would be hosting another MLB playoff game.
