By Evan Massey
Indiana running back Tevin Coleman has been added to the Maxwell Award watch.
The Indiana Hoosiers have been one of the nation’s most inconsistent football teams, but they have one of the most dynamic running backs in college football as well. Tevin Coleman has been playing at an extremely high level all season long, and has finally begun getting some attention from the media. Coleman was added to the Maxwell Award watch today, which rewards the nation’s top offensive player.

Coleman has carried the football 120 times for 1,060 yards and 11 touchdowns, and has also caught 15 passes for 134 yards. Those numbers show just how valuable he has been this season, and he could also see his name in Heisman Trophy contention if he continues the type of production that he has had. If the Hoosiers were better as a team, there would be a much better chance that Coleman could be in contention for individual awards.
Needless to say, the Hoosiers aren’t going to be taking Coleman’s chances away from him. In fact, Coleman is about to see his numbers go up due to starting quarterback Nate Sudfeld going down with a season-ending injury. They will be putting the football in Coleman’s hands more both on the ground and as a receiver out of the backfield.
It will be intriguing to see if Coleman can keep up the type of numbers that he has been recording recently. He has been receiving quite a bit of attention from NFL scouts, and he could end up leaving following the season. That being said, he has plenty of time to up his stock against strong competition like Michigan State and Ohio State.
Indiana is excited to see the attention finally beginning to come in for Coleman. His numbers prove that he is one of the best running backs in the nation, and he is worthy of the attention that is coming his way. There is a chance that he could still become a Heisman contender as well if he can continue putting up big performances over the last six games of the season.
