The Louisville Cardinals have navigated their way through the past few weeks without the services of their starting quarterback, Will Gardner, who has been out with an injury. However, this weekend, that will change, as Gardner is set to return to his starting spot.
Louisville offensive coordinator Garrick McGee announced the news on Tuesday that Gardner is ready to go under center, while at the same time noting the good job that Reggie Bonnafon did in the absence of the starter.
“Reggie came in and did a really good job and won us a couple games,” McGee said. “Will is back healthy now, so we’re going to put in Will first.”
Gardner has been nursing a knee injury that he suffered a few weeks ago, however he did see some time last weekend in the team’s loss to the Clemson Tigers. That was the first good sign that he was ready to reclaim his starting spot.
So when the Cardinals take the field on Saturday against NC State, Gardner will once again be the team’s starting quarterback. But it should also be noted that, because of how well he played the past few weeks, McGee also noted that Bonnafon will see some time in the contest.
