ESPN College Football Challenge Picks For Week 8
By Mike Marteny
For those of you that don’t know, ESPN College Football Challenge is the closest you can get to college fantasy football on ESPN. You get to comprise a roster of two quarterbacks, two runnings backs, two wide receivers, a team kicker, and a team defense. The scoring is very similar to NFL scoring.

Last week, the only good picks I really had were Melvin Gordon and Tyler Murphy. Kevin White did pretty well, but Amari Cooper was a bust, as were Shane Carden and Anthone Taylor. It was Josh Bell, not Aaron Harris, that torched the Old Dominion D.
Here are my picks for week 8:
Quarterbacks:
Bryce Petty, Baylor: His back is healthy, and he torched a decent TCU defense last week. This week he gets a West Virginia D that has given up some big plays. All of Petty’s six TD’s last week were for 25 yards or more. You see where I’m going with this.
Brett Hundley, UCLA: Cal has given up by far the most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season. Anyone who plays them is practically a must-start.
Honorable Mention: Rakeem Cato at Florida International, Justin Holman vs. Tulane
Stay Away: Jameis Winston vs. Notre Dame, Justin Worley at Mississippi
Running Backs:
Donnel Pumphrey, San Diego State: Pumphrey lit up New Mexico last week, and he had an extra day of rest heading into this one. He could have a big game against Hawaii.
Javorious Allen, USC: Someone has finally emerged from the SC backfield. Now Allen gets a Colorado defense that has been less than steallar so far this year. Don’t expect 40 from Allen again, but mid-20’s is a good possibility.
Honorable Mention: Leonard Fournette vs. Kentucky, Jay Ajayi vs. Fresno State
Stay Away: Tevin Coleman vs. Michigan State, James Conner vs. Virginia Tech
Wide Receivers:
Nelson Spruce, Colorado: The Ralphies will likely be down early, and USC has given up a lot of yards to opposing receivers during conference play. I like Spruce to have a good day in this one.
Kevin White, West Virginia: Unlike Baylor’s receivers, you know who Trickett is going to look for first for the Mountaineers. White is the go-to guy, and he is facing a defense that gave up 58 points last week. He could have a huge game!
Honorable Mention: Jordan Payton vs. California, Tony Lippett at Indiana
Stay Away: William Fuller vs. Notre Dame, Leonte Carroo at Ohio State
Kickers:
Oklahoma: The K-State defense could hold them to a lot of field goals.
Duke, Notre Dame, and Florida State could be kicking a lot of field goals too.
Defense:
Virginia Tech: Pitt has struggled all year. This will be a low scoring game, and the VT secondary could come up with several picks in this one.
Honorable Mention: South Carolina vs. Furman, Mississippi at Tennessee, Minnesota vs. Purdue
