Reigning Heisman Trophy holder Jameis Winston still has a chance to equal Ohio State icon Archie Griffin as back-to-back Heisman winners, yet his off-the-field issues are causing many — including 1982 winner Herschel Walker — to lose favor with him.

Walker, appearing on Paul Finebaum’s radio show on Thursday, said that he would not vote for the Florida State quarterback, even if Winston shines during the second-ranked Seminoles’ showdown against fifth-ranked Notre Dame on Saturday night.

“At this given time today, I can’t give him my vote,” said the Georgia legend.

Walker isn’t the first Heisman Trophy winner to voice his disappointment with Winston, who was acquitted of a sexual assault charge last year and was suspended for Florida State’s game against Clemson last month after yelling a profane phrase in the middle of a school lunch room.

Auburn’s Bo Jackson, who won the award in 1985, said he had “washed his hands” of Winston after the latter ignored the advice Jackson attempted to give him earlier this year.

“I really don’t know who is giving this young man guidance. I have communicated with him and I just talked to him like I was his dad. The things that you need to do. And this was before the incident where he was (suspended) from the baseball team (for stealing crab legs),” Jackson said.

Winston now faces the issue as to whether the 2,000 signatures on a variety of items are actually his. He still faces possible punishment from Florida State for violating the school’s code of conduct regarding the alleged sexual assault case.
