LeBron James does not look back fondly on the way he left the Cleveland Cavaliers during the NBA’s offseason in 2010.

To put it lightly, LeBron James caught a lot of heat for how he left the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2010. LeBron announced his choice to sign with the Miami Heat in an hour-long special for ESPN titled “The Decision.”

Many viewed it as an unnecessary spectacle and disrespectful to the Cavs.

LeBron recently spoke about the television special to Basketball Insiders and admitted he could have handled his free agency announcement better.

"James has said he regrets the pomp and circumstance around the nationally televised “Decision” and that he did not discuss his intentions with the Cavaliers before the announcement."

Not informing the Cavaliers of his choice beforehand was surely one of LeBron’s biggest mistakes. Having members of the Cavs organization watch the special without any knowledge of what was to happen wasn’t very professional on LeBron’s behalf.

The four-time MVP learned from his mistake and announced his return to the Cavaliers this offseason in a first-person essay published in Sports Illustrated that garnered nearly universal praise.

The Cavaliers drafted LeBron with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2003 NBA Draft. He spent the first seven years of his career with the team before signing with the Heat in 2010. With Miami, LeBron won two championships and made it to the NBA Finals four times in four seasons.

LeBron averaged 27.1 points, 6.9 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game this past season with Miami.
