The Cardinals got up early on a double by Jon Jay but the Giants took a 2-1 lead on Joe Panik’s two-run home run. Matt Adams tied things up with a solo shot in the fourth and then Tony Cruz made it 3-2 Cardinals two batters later.
In the eighth inning, the Giants brought outfielder Michael Morse into to pinch-hit for pitcher Madison Bumgarner. Morse hit a solo home run to tie things up, making it 3-3 heading into the ninth inning.
