The New York Knicks will struggle as they attempt to learn the triangle offense. As of now, that shouldn’t be a concern.

It was a busy offseason for the New York Knicks.
First, they hired Phil Jackson, an 11-time NBA Champion as a head coach, as their president. Then, they pulled off a deal with the Dallas Mavericks. The Knicks sent Tyson Chandler and point guard Raymond Felton to the Mavericks for guards Jose Calderon, Wayne Ellington and Shane Larkin, veteran center Samuel Dalembert and two second round picks (Cleanthony Early and Thanasis Antetokounmpo). They hired Derek Fisher as head coach and most importantly, re-signed star forward Carmelo Anthony.
The Knicks are now transitioning to the famed triangle offense under Jackson and Fisher. The Knicks have been a little slow to pick up the offense, but that’s to be expected. In fact, there are many who believe they may not truly pick things up until January.
That’s why Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders doesn’t believe the Knicks’ early struggles are cause for concern.
"No, the struggles are expected this early. It always takes time for teams to learn the triangle offense and Phil Jackson knows that. I’ve heard former Lakers players say that it took them months to learn the offense and that they weren’t thriving in it until their second year. I’d be stunned if they weren’t struggling right now, to be honest. Give them some time and they should start to look better."
Any time you implement a new system, it is going to take time. Plus, none of these players have ever played in the system, further complicating things. Of course, the Knicks missed the playoff by just a game last year and if it does take them that long to learn the system, they may be missing out on the postseason again.
