NFC South
Team | W | L | T | Pct. | Pt. Dif | GB | Odds |
Carolina Panthers | 3 | 2 | 1 | .583 | -16 | — | 62.8% |
New Orleans Saints | 2 | 3 | 0 | .400 | -9 | 1.5 | 32.4% |
Atlanta Falcons | 2 | 4 | 0 | .333 | -6 | 2 | 6.6% |
Tampa Bay Buccaneers | 1 | 5 | 0 | .167 | -84 | 3 | 2.3% |
The NFC South is making its case for the “worst division in the NFL” award. All four teams have negative point differentials, and each team has played a fairly weak schedule overall.
Given the remaining intra-division games, it is mathematically conceivable that Carolina could win the division with a record of 6-9-1. While this is extremely unlikely, it would be the worst record in NFL history for a playoff team. Looking at projected wins, the Panthers are currently projected to 8.1. That would give them the division crown with a record of 8-7-1.
Seeing the Saints with a healthy Drew Brees sitting there with under a one-in-three chance of making the playoffs is puzzling. That New Orleans defense is awful right now, but this is almost exactly the same roster as the one that made the second round of the playoffs a year ago.
