The Phoenix Suns narrowly missed out on the postseason last season and want to make sure that doesn’t happen again this year. Although they lost Channing Frye, they added Isaiah Thomas and Anthony Tolliver and re-signed Eric Bledsoe. Plus, they likely aren’t done.

According to Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders, the Phoenix Suns were very aggressive in looking for a deal last year and could do the same in the search for a big man this season.

"They were very aggressive last year, weighing all of their trade options and having a lot of conversations once they realized that they had a playoff-caliber team on their hands. Also, we’ve seen that Ryan McDonough has done a good job making trades so far, like when he traded Jared Dudley and a second-round pick for Eric Bledsoe and traded Luis Scola for Miles Plumlee, Gerald Green and the first-round pick that became Bogdan Bogdanović. With so many point guards on the roster (Bledsoe, Goran Dragic, Isaiah Thomas and Tyler Ennis), I could see Phoenix making a move. They also have plenty of young assets and first-round picks, which are always attractive in deals."

The Suns reportedly pursued Pau Gasol prior to last season’s trade deadline, but the Los Angeles Lakers decided to hang on to him (and then they lost him for nothing in the offseason when he signed with the Chicago Bulls).

The development of Alex Len, the team’s lottery pick in 2013, will be key. If he can give the Suns valuable minutes, they may not need to make a deal. However, if he can’t, Kennedy’s point about the Phoenix Suns pulling off a deal potentially including one of their point guards, makes a lot of sense.
