Golden State Warriors’ guard Klay Thompson is looking for a contract extension. He and the Warriors have until October 31 to work out a deal or he will become a restricted free agent.
Thompson’s teammates also would like to see him get paid.
In fact, swingman Andre Iguodala plans to get him more involved to increase his numbers for a better shot at a new deal.
“I would do that for any teammate,” the 30-year-old Iguodala told Sirius XM earlier this week via Diamond Leung of Inside The Bay Area. “And I would want it – a teammate like that, a guy to say, ‘Hey, this guy has our back and he wants me to get paid. He’s going to help me in any way possible.’
“It’s not just Klay, but I want Steph (Curry) to maximize his career. I want him to get paid as much as possible on and off the court. Draymond Green’s in a contract year, too, so I’m going to be looking to give him a couple extra. He’s going to fill up the basket a little bit more with me on the court with him as well.
Andre Iguodala believes former teammates Kevin Ollie, Aaron McKie and Andre Miller are big reasons why he earned a six-year, $80 million deal.
That has to music to the hears of both Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry. Andre Iguodala is a good play maker and can certainly help them get more open looks.
Curry put up 24.0 points, 8.5 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game while shooting 47.1% from the floor, 42.4% from beyond the arc and 88.5% from the free throw line last season. Thompson averaged 18.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 44.4% from the field, 41.7% from beyond the arc and 79.5% from the charity stripe.
