The New York Knicks re-sign forward Carmelo Anthony in the offseason and although they know making the postseason will be tough this year, they are also looking toward the future. With big men Amar’e Stoudemire and Andrea Bargnani set to come off of the books following the 2014-2015 season, the Knicks will have money to chase big money free agents.

Accroding Moke Hamilton of Basketball Insiders, Memphis Grizzlies’ center Marc Gasol is going to be the Knicks’ primary target in free agency in 2015.

"From what I hear, Marc Gasol is going to be the primary target for the Knicks July 2015, mainly because they believe that he is the quintessential triangle center, and I happen to agree. I think if the Knicks had the opportunity to sign him for a four-year max. deal, even at 30 years old, they would. That might be too rich for the Grizzlies to offer in return based on their current ledger and rather small market… But the Grizzlies have spent to this point."

Pau Gasol, Marc Gasol’s older brother, had great success in the triangle offense while playing for Phil Jackson with the Los Angeles Lakers. Many believe Marc Gasol can have similar success under head coach Derek Fisher in Phil Jackson’s system.

During the 2013-2014 season, Marc Gasol went for 14.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 47.3% from the field, 18.2% from beyond the arc and 76.8% from the free throw line in 59 games. In his career, he’s averaged 13.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 51.2% from the field, 15.2% from beyond the arc and 74.9% from the free throw line.
