Seth Green, the East Ridge High School quarterback, decided to go away from his home state and commit to the Oregon Ducks.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers are set to welcome the Purdue Boilermakers into TCF Bank Stadium on Saturday. On the line will be a shot at a 6-1 record, and the opportunity to become bowl eligible on homecoming. Some unfortunate news took place this week however as they missed out on prized in state NCAA football recruit, Seth Green.

There’s nothing comedic about Green, as he is the number one player in the state of Minnesota and the number eight dual-threat quarterback in the country. With the Gophers having a heavy run attack offense, it is in a quarterback like Green that the Gophers place relevance.

East Ridge High School, located in Woodbury, MN (a suburb of Minneapolis), watched as Green stood from his seat and grabbed an Oregon Ducks hat to declare his intentions for his collegiate future. Choosing the Ducks over Minnesota and Michigan State, Green gave his verbal commitment.

Green made his mind up over the weekend, and told the Minneapolis Star Tribune it just had to be Oregon, “When I visited Oregon I felt something special. I could see myself there.”

Although Green’s father Bryan played for the Gophers, and Minnesota made a final push, he had been leaning Oregon for a while.

On the season, Green has compiled 1,319 passing yards, 435 rushing yards and 16 total touchdowns in his junior year.

Green cannot yet sign a national letter of intent until February 2016.

For the Gophers, it’s hard not to wonder if Green wasn’t doing right by his home state and father by keeping Minnesota on the hook. Despite the program in Eugene being more nationally recognized, and the well known benefits of being a Ducks football player, the game tape should tell the story.

Having sat in the Gophers press box this season to cover the team, watching the San Jose State non conference tilt in which the Gophers completed one pass, in the entire game, for only seven yards, the damnation had already taken place. Any opposing coach going after a wide receiver or quarterback that Minnesota has targeted had their ammunition. Show that tape and simply state, “Is this the style of offense you want to play for?”

Minnesota has Mitch Leidner for at least the next two years, and will go back to the drawing board when it comes to finding their quarterback in waiting. For the Oregon Ducks, the announcement will add to a stable likely including Ty Griffin and Taylor Alie upon Green arriving on campus.
