This is the first sponsorship of a college football conference title game for Sports Authority. They do have the current stadium corporate naming rights for Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver, home of the Denver Broncos.
The defending champion of the MWC is Fresno State. They defeated Utah State 24-17 in front of 31,362 fans at Bulldog Stadium in Fresno. The game was televised by CBS.
The winner of the MWC title game typically goes on to the Las Vegas Bowl. Fresno State went on to lose to the Southern Cal Trojans in the 2013 Las Vegas Bowl 45-20
As for the MWC title game, the sponsorship deal did not disclose any terms of how long the agreement is for, only that Sports Authority had agreed to sponsor the 2014 game. There is still a long way to go in the 2014 season, however if the season ended today, it would be Hawaii visiting Utah State. Fresno State and Boise State lurk right behind though.
This years game will be held on December 6th.
