The goal of any NBA team, as it is in any other professional sport, is to make it through the preseason healthy. That is especially true with veteran players who have minimal use for the preseason to begin with.

Paul Pierce is trying to get acclimated with his new team, the Washington Wizards, in advance of the start of the 2014-2015 regular season. The 37-year-old had dropped seven points in 13 minutes of work before he was forced to exit his team’s preseason game on Friday night.

Pierece had to head to the locker room with an apparent injury to his right knee. According to Ben Standig of CSN Washington:

The Wizards are coming off a 2013-2014 season that showed a lot of promise. Looking to build on that success with an even deeper run in the playoffs this season, the Wizards added a veteran with the most proven track record in Pierce. Playing for the Nets last season, Pierce averaged 13.5 PPG in 75 games.
