The Pittsburgh Pirates traded for Ike Davis in April, but might be open to dealing the first baseman away this offseason in order to accommodate current third baseman Pedro Alvarez.

Ike Davis hasn’t even been with the Pittsburgh Pirates for an entire year, but he could be on the move again this winter, reports the New York Daily News. Davis was acquired by the Pirates in late April from the New York Mets in exchange for minor-leaguers Zach Thorton and Blake Taylor, after the Mets spent most of spring training trying to trade Davis.

Now, Davis could be on the move again, and this time it has more to do with who would be replacing him than his own production, although Davis didn’t set the world on fire with his bat in 2014. Pirates third baseman Pedro Alvarez could move across the diamond and play first base after having issues throwing the ball last season, though the Pittsburgh front office hasn’t indicated that they will definitely shift potions, but it looks likely.

This leaves Davis, in his second year of arbitration, as once again either a trade candidate, or possibly a non-tender candidate. Davis hit 11 home runs and slashed .233/.344/.378, all disappointing numbers from a first baseman, but the Daily News notes that the Miami Marlins could be interested in Davis if he is indeed available.
