New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan is upset about team’s 1-6 record.
The New York Jets lost their sixth consecutive game when they fell 27-25 to the New England Patriots on Thursday night. This likely gives Jets head coach Rex Ryan a shelf life of the end of December.

It’s not like Ryan is not getting his players to compete. It is more the lack of talent on the roster that is bringing the Jets down. It is more likely that upper management is to blame, but it will likely be Ryan that is sacrificed to the NFL Gods as penance for the Jets’ awful stretch in 2014.
That is not to say that they can’t turn it around, but when you need to go at least 9-7 to make the playoffs, their chances are very low.
After the game, Ryan had this to say: “I’m not shell-shocked at all. I’m a little upset because our record is what it is.”
The Jets had the ball for over 40 minutes and ran for 218 yards against the Patriots, but they were done in by red zone penalties on offense and not making plays on defense.
Ryan has been rumored to be on the hot seat since last year, but the rise of quarterback Geno Smith late last year likely extended Ryan’s lease in New York by one more year. It is looking more and more like the Jets need to move on. Maybe not from the coach, but from the kind of players that they have.
The signing of WR Eric Decker and RB Chris Johnson was supposed to add another element to the offense, but Decker has had problems extending the field. He does have 24 catches for 323 yards and three touchdowns on the season despite fighting a hamstring injury. Johnson has been overshadowed by Chris Ivory, but is at least proving to be a suitable backup.
That is not what they brought him in for though. They need someone to step up and lead the defense, and they need the Geno Smith from December of 2013 to turn the team around. If they can’t, they will likely be playing for a different coach.
