Tre Madden is out for the season as the USC Trojans reserve running back has battled a lingering case of turf toe

The USC Trojans will be without reserve running back Tre Madden for the remainder of the season with a case of turf toe that has prevented him from suiting up for USC this season.

Madden has been sidelined with the turf toe since August and has not played in any of the six USC games this year and after consulting with his family, coaches and doctors the best course of action was determined to sit out the remainder of the year to ensure he can come back for the 2015 season.

"“We’re moving forward,” Tre’s father, Curtis Madden, said by phone, via the Orange Country Register: “It’s disappointing that he’s not going to be able to contribute this season. But there’s next year and the year after that.”"

Madden is visiting a foot specialist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Monday to determine the best course of treatment according to the Register and could apply for a medical hardship waiver to preserve a year of eligibility. He redshirted in 2012 because of an injury so if he goes that route he could get a sixth year of eligibility in 2016.

Javorius “Buck” Allen asserted himself as the featured running back without Madden available and leads the Pac-12 in yards, carries and touchdowns and could be a candidate to enter the 2015 NFL Draft so if he leaves, the opportunity for Madden to compete for the starting running back job would be that much more manageable.

Madden rushed for 703 yards and three touchdowns on 138 carries last year while adding 15 catches for 204 yards and four touchdowns.
