West Virginia was unranked going into their game against No. 4 Baylor, but they didn’t play that way on the road to an upset win.

Last week, the Baylor Bears went on a wild ride against TCU to win a barn burner of a game, but their luck almost completely ran out in that big game. Proof of that was seen in Baylor’s loss to West Virginia on Saturday afternoon when the Bears rolled into West Virginia and ended up getting rolled 41-27 by the Mountaineers.

The big game was led by Clint Trickett, who went for 322 and two touchdowns on the afternoon in the big win. Things were close for a while, but it was Trickett and his gunslinging that helped get West Virginia rolling late in the game. With the score 20-14 in the second quarter, the Mountaineers clicked in the most impressive way, scoring the next 17 points to take a 27-20 lead.

When Shock Linwood scored at the end of the third quarter to tie the game at 27-27, it was the arm of Trickett that blew the game wide open. The next 14 points were scored off the arm of Trickett as he helped West Virginia outscore Baylor 31-7 from the last time the Mountaineers were trailing until the end of the game.

With the loss, Baylor will likely drop in the Top 10, but may not drop out. It was a crushing loss though and a rather convicning win by West Virginia, which means the margin of victory for the Mountaineers could drop Baylor down to No. 11 — the spot the Oklahoma Sooners vacated on Saturday afternoon.

Before the game was even over, the Mountaineers players took off from the field and rushed to the student section to thank their hometown fans for their support. It was a thrilling win for the West Virginia as they pulled off the upset against the No. 4 team in the country to move to 5-2 on the season and possibly regain a spot in the Top 25 this week.
