The St. Louis Blues will be starting their backup against the Arizona Coyotes Saturday night

According to Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch,  the St. Louis Blues have confirmed that Jake Allen will be starting in net for them against the Arizona Coyotes Saturday night.

Allen, who is starting his first full NHL season this fall, was one of the team’s most promising prospects last season. The 24-year-old netminder from Fredericton, Canada posted 9 wins in his 15 games with the club last season and one shootout loss for an impressive .905 SV% during his brief period with the Blues.

While the Blues confirmed as early as Thursday that this would be the case, though, fans still have yet to hear from Arizona as to whom will start in their fourth home game of the season. So far each netminder for the club has posted a win, but starter Mike Smith has looked less than perfect in his two appearances with the franchise this season. He allowed four goals to slip past during the team’s 7-4 victory over the struggling Edmonton Oilers Wednesday night, and had a disastrous 6 goals against on opening night against the Winnipeg Jets.

Both teams are coming into the game looking to jump back into the competitive Western Conference frey, as Arizona sits on a 2-1-0 record and St. Louis a 1-1-1. Both the Coyotes and the Blues have looked good but not great coming into Saturday night’s matchup, but neither are expecting to keep it that way.

Hopefully, Allen will be bringing his A-game, as the Coyotes are touting a 5-goals-in-three-games Mikkel Boedker to skate out on their top line.
