Johan Franzen scores sweet goal; leaves game with leg injury later on against Toronto

NHL fan-girling so hard for Detroit, their plethora of Swedish players, and Jared Leto Henrik Zetterberg has never been easier than when Johan Franzen starts bringing in a point per game.

More from Detroit Red Wings

The 34-year-old Swedish forward brought it home Friday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs in a 4-1 victory for the Detroit Red Wings, scoring possibly the sickest goal of the night despite having to leave the game early due to a leg injury in the final minutes of the second period.

According to Franzen, the reason for leaving the game was leg spasms, but he “insists it’s not serious”.

I sincerely hope this is the case, because I somehow convinced one of my best friends that starting Franzen today over Ryan Callahan was probably his best bet. I hadn’t seen the injury when I said this, and I already feel kind of bad (not really); hopefully, Franzen is correct in reassuring us that he’s fine and will be back in the lineup for the second consecutive matchup between these two Original Six franchises.

For those who missed the goal, here it is, complete with Zetterberg’s absolutely filthy pass to Franzen to make it happen:

Life was a lot easier when the Wings weren’t in the same division as my favorite team, cause I felt less guilty about loving them so much.
