The New York Jets traded for Percy Harvin this week and many are wondering if he’ll end up getting cut since none of his money is guaranteed.

Percy Harvin was traded twice in the last year by teams that grew tired of his attitude behind the scenes and now the New York Jets are going to give him a third chance in the NFL. But while the Jets have acquired the receiver, the question is how long will he last in New York.

With just over $41 million left on his monster contract, there is a lot to live up to. The fact that there is no guaranteed money on his deal means that the team could part ways with Harvin at any time and not be on the hook for much more than embarrassment.

According to Charlie Bernstein, Harvin is unlikely to get cut by the Jets in the near future as logic suggests that’s a stupid thing to do.

"One would think that Harvin would be in the Jets’ future plans as he is owed $41.5 million over the next four seasons, but none of that money is guaranteed after this season. It seems as if Harvin would be in Jets general manager John Idzik’s plans as the team is 1-6 and going nowhere this season. To part ways with Harvin after the season would basically mean throwing away a low to middle-round draft pick, something that won’t look very good on the young GM’s resume."

Cutting Harvin is a move that the Jets could do, but it’s more likely that the team is going to see where this gamble goes. Either Harvin will get it together and work things out, or he’s going to be a bust. The worst thing the Jets can do though is cut him since they’re on the hook for him with conditional draft picks no matter what.
