The Seattle Seahawks traded away Percy Harvin due to past fights with teammates and after he pulled himself out of last weeks game against the Dallas Cowboys.

The NFL community was shocked Friday when the Seattle Seahawks and New York Jets announced that Percy Harvin had been traded to the Jets for a 2015 6th round draft pick. But, as more details emerge, it seems the Seahawks felt they needed to remove Harvin from the team and the locker room due to past incidences of violences and attitude issues like in Sunday’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

More from New York Jets

The Seattle Times reported that Harvin had gotten into past altercations with current Seahawks receiver Doug Baldwin and former receiver Golden Tate, who is now a member of the Detroit Lions:

"“One source confirmed a report that Harvin had gotten into an altercation with former Seahawk Golden Tate before the Super Bowl that resulted in Tate getting a black eye. A source also said Harvin had an altercation with Seattle receiver Doug Baldwin in the week leading up to the final exhibition game this August at Oakland that resulted in Baldwin getting a cut on his chin and each player being excused from practices that week. Harvin, who did not practice for two days before that game, did not make the trip to Oakland for what the team said at the time was ‘a personal matter.'”"

Also according to the Seattle Times, in the Seahawks 30-23 loss to the Cowboys at home last Sunday, Harvin refused to re-enter the game in the fourth quarter and only played 26 of 48 official snaps and just 11 of the last 17 snaps.

"A source also told the Seattle Times, “‘He’s just a time bomb,’ describing him as ‘too moody’ and noting that Minnesota had also grown tired of dealing with Harvin, which precipitated his trade to Seattle in March 2013.”"

Harvin’s contract also could’ve led to the decision to trade him away as his six-year contract included $25.5 million in guaranteed money. This way, the Seahawks free up some space.

Seattle definitely didn’t get what Harvin is worth out of the deal, but clearly many teams decided they didn’t want to deal with attitude issues from Harvin either. The next step for Seattle will be trying to sign or trade for new receivers. They’re now left with Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse as their top wide-outs. If they want to continue to be a successful NFL offense they need more at that position.

We’ll see how Harvin fits in with the Jets, and how long he can keep his head on straight with one of the most frustrating teams in the NFL.
