Tennessee Titans safety Michael Griffin is still down on himself for two bad plays that could have cost the Titans a win at Jacksonville.

The Tennessee Titans may have defeated division rival Jacksonville Jaguars, but it didn’t come easy and for safety Michael Griffin, the following week was even tougher. Despite his own admissions that he lost sleep all week after having whiffed on two big plays against the Jags, Griffin is looking forward to getting back on the field and helping his team get another win.

“It is still hard to sleep, still to this day,” Griffin said per The Tennessean. “I wasn’t satisfied with my play. Last Sunday, I played (poorly) and everybody sees that. Some people laugh and say put it behind you. … A lot of people saw me (throw) my helmet. I was frustrated. I don’t want to be that person to put my team on the line. And if I make a mistake, I do everything I can to eliminate it and try not to let it happen again.”

The Titans won 16-14 against the Jaguars, which is a much slimmer margin than anyone expected with hapless Jacksonville involved. The Jags were aided by Griffin’s whiff on a long pass that set up Jacksonville’s touchdown. Then Griffin was sent out on the onside kick recovery unit and had a chance to secure the ball, and the game, for the Titans.

Instead he whiffed there too and the Jags were able to attempt a field goal. That kick was blocked though and Griffin’s mistakes were washed away. At least for everyone except Griffin, whose coaches admired his fortitude.

“It matters to him,” defensive coordinator Ray Horton said. “Some guys are like ‘Hey, we won the game. It’s OK, it doesn’t matter.’ Or, ‘Hey, it was a slippery ball, slippery ground.’ But he said, ‘I have to play better’ and I respect that. … And he’s working to get better.”
