The Ole Miss Rebels remain undefeated after knocking off the Tennessee Volunteers behind another suffocating performance from the Ole Miss defense
Bo Wallace and the Ole Miss offense started off slow against Tennessee, but they finished strong as they knocked off the Vols in this SEC crossover showdown by the score of 27-3 to improve to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the SEC and drop Butch Jones’ club to 3-4 overall and 0-3 in the SEC

All week long Tennessee had to hear about how dominant the Rebel defense was as they entered the game with the nation’s No. 2 scoring defense and they lived up to the billing as they forced three more interceptions, a forced fumble on a kickoff and sacked Tennessee seven times.
Justin Worley threw three interceptions before being lifted for Nathan Peterman in the fourth quarter with the game decided after he took a beating from the Landshark defense who held the Vols to zero rushing yards, 3-16 on third downs, 0-1 on fourth down and 191 total yards of offense.
Credit Tennessee for coming to play and the defense looked like it could be a low scoring affair as the Vols pitched a shutout in the first quarter and held a brief 3-0 lead in the second quarter, but then Wallace and the Rebel offense took over as Vince Sanders had a 39-yard reception and Jaylen Walton had a seven-yard run as the Rebels built a 14-3 lead in a little more than three minutes.
Ole Miss missed a field goal to end the half otherwise it would have been a larger lead at halftime, but that was all the scoring Ole Miss would need on the night in front of the fans at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, MS as the Vols offense couldn’t muster anything against the nation’s best defense.
Tennessee’s defense played tough, however, to begin the second half and kept the offense in the game as A.J. Johnson and the defense kept Ole Miss off the scoreboard until the 2:04 mark in the third when Gary Wunderlich booted a 34-yard field goal and on the ensuing possession Evan Berry fumbled the kickoff and Wallace found Evan Engram for a 28-yard touchdown on the next play for the 24-3 lead.
Wunderlich added his second field goal in the fourth quarter and Mark Dodson added an eight-yard touchdown run with 31 seconds remaining for the game’s final score.
Wallace finished with 199 yards and two touchdowns, Walton had a game-high 60 yards and Sanders had a game-high 108 yards as the Rebels offense complemented the stingy defense that overwhelmed Worley and the young Vols.
