The Boston Bruins currently sit with a 2-4-0 record, putting them towards the bottom of the barrel in the league with six games already in the books.

In comparison, the Toronto Maple Leafs look only slightly better, having recorded an eerily similar 2-3-0 record opening week with only five games thus far. Technically, the Leafs have the ability to pull ahead by yet another game for a 3-3-0 record (or even lose for a 2-3-1 record in overtime) to leave their divisional rivals in the dust.

Yet, it is the Leafs fans who have already had enough with losing, as yet another fan tosses his jersey onto the ice in Toronto this Friday night, when the Atlantic Division franchise fell 4-1 to the Detroit Red Wings.

As someone who is more than familiar with the Toronto Maple Leafs and their fan base, this is getting old- and pissing me off in a serious way.

Obviously, one (or two) fans cannot represent a whole fanbase. P.K. Subban reminded us of this during the playoffs this spring, when certain Boston fans took to the Twitterverse with some NSFW comments about the Montreal blue-liner that took us all back in time to the 1950’s. So we can’t look at the whole of Toronto’s fan base and tell them to stay classy, because it’s really just a small minority who are making us all feel sorry for them.

Feel sorry for them do I ever, though. Toronto has two more wins on the books than the Edmonton Oilers in as many season-starting contests, yet the Leafs fans are alone in their public displays of white-trashiness. Even the Buffalo Sabres, who (if possible?!?!?!) look worse than last year, haven’t seen this kind of behavior at their home games.

Nazem Kadri called out the fans the first time it happened, but I’m calling them out this time around. Word has it this was a Montreal fan who did it for the reaction this time around- but in any case, I shouldn’t be reporting on this for a second time. The announcers said it all during the game- if you don’t like it, don’t come to the rink.
