Third-year quarterback Ryan Tannehill had one of the best games of his career to lead his Miami Dolphins (3-3) over the Chicago Bears (3-4) for a 27-14 win at Solider Field Sunday. The Dolphins, who have struggled to get its offense going early, showed up from the kickoff. Tannehill completed his first 14 passes and Miami led the entire game.
The first score of the game came on the Dolphins’ second drive of the game when Tannehill found tigh end Charles Clay for a 13 yard touchdown pass.
Tannehill found Mike Wallace two drives later for an impressive 10 yard touchdown. Tannehill showed real progress on this throw, going through four different reads before finding Wallace in the right corner on a perfect throw. Tannehill has struggled to go through his reads, and to deliver accurate passes without overthrowing his receivers. This was a welcome sight for Dolphins fans. The Dolphins took a 14-0 lead into halftime.
The Bears finally got on the board in the third quarter. After a long drive, Jay Cutler found Matt Forte for a 10-yard touchdown pass to bring the score to 14-7. It capped off a 12-play, 80 yard drive.
But Miami answered with a long drive of its own, going 83 yards on 13 plays. Lamar Miller scored on a two-yard run to extend Miami’s lead to 21-7.
In the fourth quarter, the Dolphins tacked on another field goal and the Bears scored again on a touchdown run from Matt Forte with 7:38 left. Miami added one more field goal and gave the ball back to the Bears with 2:13 left. Cutler drove the Bears down the field to the Miami 15-yard line, but the Dolphins defense forced four-straight incompletions and a turnover on downs to end the game.
Tannehill finished with 277 yards and two touchdowns on 23-of-32 passing. Miller had 61 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. For the Bears, Cutler finished with 190 yards, a touchdown and an interception on 21-of-34 passing while facing pressure from Miami’s pass rushers all day. Forte had 49 rushing yards and 60 receiving and two touchdowns. The Dolphins were simply more efficient, forcing three turnovers and committing zero, and that was the difference in the game.
