The infection in Kawhi Leonard’s eye has spread, and the San Antonio Spurs small forward will miss the rest of the preseason, and possibly the Spurs regular-season opener on October 28.
Kawhi Leonard’s eye infection has spread from his right eye to his left eye, and the San Antonio Spurs expect their 23-year old small forward to miss at least 10 days as he recovers. Though the eye infection isn’t considered serious, Leonard will miss the remainder of the preseason, and possibly even the Spurs regular-season opener on Tuesday, October 28.

Naturally, the ever-quotable Spurs coach Gregg Popovich had some gold regarding Leonard’s eye situation, when he set Leonard’s recovery timetable at approximately 10 days:
“(The infection) is going back and forth between the two (eyes),” Popovich said. “It’s crazy.”
As Leonard’s infection isn’t considered serious, he’s likely closer to the probable side of being able to play in the regular-season opener, when the Spurs host the Dallas Mavericks, despite Leonard being held out of yesterday’s preseason game against the Miami Heat. That game will be televised nationally on TNT. The fourth-year player was the MVP of the NBA Finals last season, when the Spurs beat the Heat to claim the NBA title.
