Montreal Candiens‘ blue-liner P.K. Subban knows he needs to clean up his play

In the past five consecutive games, P.K. Subban has spent some quality time in the penalty box. Five. Consecutive. Games.

It’s no secret that Subban is one of the most effective defensemen in the league, but he’s also one of the most… ah, I’ll call him controversial. He’s spent over 300 minutes in the “sin bin” in the past 200 games, despite being one of his team’s key players.

After the team won 3-2 over the Colorado Avalanche Saturday night, Subban acknowledged that this needs to be a trend he moves away from. As the player on the team who scored 2 of the 3 Canadiens goals, he knows that he shouldn’t be putting his team in a position where they’re down a man- especially him.

I’ve never been a Montreal fan, but I’m slow clapping it for this acceptance until the skin falls off my hands. On-ice leaders shouldn’t put their teams in positions where they have to play to a one-man advantage, and I’m extremely proud of P.K. for recognizing this.

Of course, whether he plays well or not, the Canadiens are probably already well on their way to securing a playoff berth. The Atlantic Division sits in first overall across the league with ten points in the first week and a half of regular season play… so whether Subban gets his act together or not, he’ll probably be skating out as late as May or June. Life isn’t fair.
