Percy Harvin and Golden Tate reportedly got into a fight before last year’s NFL Super Bowl when both men were wide receivers for the Seattle Seahawks.

It has been less than a week since the Seattle Seahawks made the surprising decision to trade dynamic playmaker Percy Harvin to the New York Jets for a conditional draft pick.

In the time since, a number of stories have emerged that suggest Harvin was such a problem in the Seattle locker room that it earned him a ticket out of town. Considering the king’s ransom the Seahawks traded to the Vikings in the first place to acquire Harvin, not to mention the financial commitment they made to him, one imagines he was quite the jerk for Seattle to decide to trade him.

One incident stands out in particular as interesting, if nothing else. As was rumored earlier this week, there was apparently quite the kerfuffle between Harvin and fellow former-Seahawk Golden Tate at last year’s Super Bowl.

On NFL Gameday morning, Michael Robinson said that he was the one to break up the fight between Harvin and Tate. As passed along by Ian Rapoport:

It is interesting to note that both men has since moved on to new teams, though in Tate’s case there is reportedly a whole different set of issues between him and quarterback Russell Wilson.

Talent usually trumps in the NFL, but for whatever talent the Seahawks saw in Harvin, they decided he was not worth the headache anymore. Fighting his teammates was probably only one piece of the puzzle, but a significant one nonetheless.
