Antonio Gates makes great catch in the back of the end zone to give the San Diego Chargers a four point halftime lead
Philip Rivers and Antonio Gates have hooked up a lot this season. Seven times now to be exact. This one gave the Chargers a 14-10 lead with 14 seconds remaining in the first half.
The Chiefs even managed to get a hand on on the ball to alter the flight. Gates still made the adjustment to haul in the pass for the lead.
This was the second touchdown pass of the day for Rivers, and his 17th on the season. That puts him in second place in the NFL this year.
Rivers has also thrown just two interceptions on the season, and leads the whole NFL with superb 117.6 quarterback rating.
He may not be given the same respect that guys like Tom Brady and Peyton Manning get, but his stats show that he belongs in the upper echelon of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks.
Rivers has led the Chargers to a 5-1 record, which is the best in the AFC West. A win over the Chiefs today would put them comfortably in first place.
