It’s well known that Ryan Tannehill played wide reciever for two years in college at Texas A&M before switching to quarterback. His physical attributes shined and he showed enough potential for the Miami Dolphins to select him No. 8 overall in the draft three years ago.
Now being coached up by Joe Philbin and new offensive coordinator Bill Lazor, this was the season Tannehill was supposed to show significant progress. At times, he’s looked like the quarterback of the future. Other times, not so much. Tannehill is having a career day against the Chicago Bears, starting the game by completing his first 14 passes.
On a key fourth-and-one in the third quarter following the Bears’ first scoring drive, Tannehill answered by keeping the ball on a read-option and picking up more than enough for the first.
Once Tannehill can consistently combine his mobility and passing ability, he’ll be a heck of a tough matchup. It’s just doing those things on a regular basis that seems to be standing in Tannehill’s way to becoming a franchise quarterback. If the Dolphins hang on to their 24-7 lead, this game should boost Tannehill’s confidence and supply a winning blue print.
