It would appear that the Seattle Seahawks were playing one heck of a game of poker. Before trading Percy Harvin to the New York Jets this week, the Seahawks were reportedly asking around the NFL for some huge trade offers for the talented receiver.
The deals that they reportedly pursued included tight end Julius Thomas from the Denver Broncos and tight end Jordan Cameron from the Cleveland Browns. As compared to those asking prices, the Seahawks got comparatively little in return.
Then again, what if the Seahawks had been willing to part with Harvin for nothing just to get rid of him? That apparently would have been an option had they not found a trade, according to Chris Mortensen.
If nothing else, this report should eliminate any doubt about how far out of favor Harvin had fallen in Seattle.
It would be fascinating to see just exactly how this report sits with the folks in the New York Jets’ front office after they surrendered a potentially valuable draft pick to acquire a significant amount of risk with the talented Harvin.
