Three men are tasked with chasing down a Top 8 place heading into the final tournaments of the year, likely buoyed by the knowledge that a deep run in Paris will get them to the magic 4545 points total that will gain them a place in London.

David Ferrer

Rankings: 5th – 4585 points

Race: 9th- 3775 points (qualified)

Defending (2013): Valencia (F – 300), Paris (F – 600), London (RR – 0)

To Play (2014): Valencia, Paris

David Ferrer is so consistent that it would be a shock for him not to reach the World Tour Finals, but his loss to Andy Murray in the Vienna Open final on Sunday has seen him fall to 9th in the Race. He will look to gain back places at his home tournament in Valencia this week, although he will most likely have to get past Murray to do so.

Time is running out for the Spanish journeyman and he will await the Paris draw with baited breath, hoping for an opportunity to make a run to the final as he did last year, beating Rafael Nadal en route to 600 points.

Milos Raonic

Rankings: 9th – 3840 points

Race: 10th – 3750 points

Defending (2013): Paris (R16 – 90)

To Play (2014): Basel, Paris

Milos Raonic, similar to Ferrer, has faded in recent weeks. His place in the Top 8 looked secure but illness and lack of form has put his place in London in serious peril. His entry into the Basel 500 tournament this week is a sign that he still believes he can make the cut, and will be hoping to take advantage of the fact the Nadal, who is in his half of the draw, is not at his best physically.

The Canadian has the ability to make waves heading into Basel and Paris and could well string together a set of results that makes things very interesting when it comes to qualification. 135 points behind 8th placed Murray, Raonic must sense there is a chance.

Grigor Dimitrov

Rankings: 11th – 3645 points

Race: 11th – 3555 points

Defending (2013): Basel (Q – 90), Paris (R16 – 90)

To Play (2014): Basel, Paris

Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov just about rescued his hunt for a place in the Top 8 of the Race with a run to the final in Stockholm, but it could be too little too late for the talented youngster.

The Wimbledon semi-finalist will need to go deep in Basel this week and then again in Paris to have any chance. His quarter-final opponent in Basel could well be Roger Federer, a match that will define Dimitrov’s breakout season.
