The big news on Monday is that Cavaliers’ head coach David Blatt plans to treat this like a regular season game.
“We’re still in preparation of preseason but I think generally speaking as we go along here, it’s the time and our chance to play guys more minutes to see our combinations for longer periods of time,” Blatt said following Sunday’s practice session via Chris Haynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Obviously, the Cavaliers were the story of the offseason. After signing All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving to a five-year max contract extension, the Cavaliers convinced LeBron James to leave the Miami Heat in favor of a return to Cleveland. Then, they used the last two No. 1 overall picks, swingman Andrew Wiggins and forward Anthony Bennett, to deal for power forward Kevin Love. They have also added veteran forward Shawn Marion and swingman Mike Miller, making them the betting favorite to win the NBA Title.
The Bulls had quite the offseason as well. After missing out on forward Carmelo Anthony, they turned their attention to big man Pau Gasol, locking him down with a three-year deal. They also added Real Madrid forward Nikola Mirotic and drafted forward Doug McDermott. If Rose stays healthy, they look like a legitimate contender.
