Jadeveon Clowney will not play for the Houston Texans on Monday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers as he recovers from a meniscus tear in the regular season opener

The No. pick in the 2014 draft, Jadeveon Clowney, will not make his highly-anticipated return tonight for the Texans against the Steelers as he works his way back to game shape after he tore his meniscus in the regular season opener.

Clowney returned to practice on a limited basis on Friday and got through two days of limited practice which prompted Texans head coach Bill O’Brien to call him a game-time decision and list him as questionable on Saturday afternoon.

However, the No. 1 overall pick out of South Carolina was downgraded to doubtful on Monday afternoon.

The Texans had hoped Clowney would be able to return for tonight’s game after suffering the knee injury six weeks ago after he was given a four-six week time frame to recover form the meniscus surgery.

Clowney ran 10 sprints across the field about two hours prior to kickoff and continued to say he is ready to play but the decision is left to trainer Geoff Kaplan and team Dr.Walter Lowe as he hopes not to miss his sixth straight game.

If Clowney was cleared to play, he would have only played around 20 snaps for the game on third downs and in two-minute drills to provide a pass rush because his conditioning is not where they’d like it after only playing in 52 snaps this year, including the two preseason games.

However, despite the lack of play from Clowney, O’Brien remains impressed with the former All-American, calling him one of the most impressive players he’s even seen, according to ESPN”s Lisa Salters.

The Texans and NFL fans will have to wait one more week to see Clowney on this defense next to and opposite MVP candidate J.J. Watt when they play the Tennessee Titans.
