MLB: 4 Things You Need To Know About The 2014 World Series

Buster Posey Has His Work Cut Out For Him
Why does Posey, an excellent catcher and a candidate for MVP of the National League have his work cut out for him? Because the Kansas City Royals run. They run a bunch. The Royals have 13 stolen bases in this small postseason sample, but considering the rest of the MLB playoff teams have 15, including three by the Giants themselves, it’s clear that the Royals believe in the value of speed, and use it as much as they can.
Unsurprisingly, given Yost’s penchant for small ball, the Royals also have more sacrifice flies this postseason than all the other teams combined. And when you mix Yost’s willingness to scratch across a run with the speedsters the Royals do have — Lorenzo Cain, Jarrod Dyson, Nori Aoki, to name a few — and Posey is going to not only have to keep an eye on KC runners trying to steal the bases, but also he could have to deal with a few runners trying to score on a flyball out. He’s going to have to be ready during this World Series, and if he can help limit the Royals on the basepaths, he takes a huge weapon away from Kansas City.
