Jackson and his wife, Lindsey, hosted a baby shower Sunday afternoon for military moms in the Tampa Bay area.
Since he signed with the Buccaneers in the spring of 2012, Jackson has been very involved with military families in the Tampa Bay area, founding the Jackson in Action 83 Foundation to “provide support to military families, focusing on the educational, emotional, and physical health of the children,” according to the foundation’s website.
Every mom invited to Sunday’s shindig was given more than $1,000 in gifts, from diapers and wipes to car seats and strollers.
It’s a cause close to Jackson’s heart. He grew up in a military home.
"“I mean, I knew growing up in a military household, sometimes things are tight,” Jackson told 10News in Tampa Bay/Sarasota. “I know it’s going to go a long way for these families, especially these young families, to keep some of that stuff in their pocket.”"
Invitees were extremely appreciative.
"“He’s amazing,” Emily Humphrey said. “I was actually doing some research on his foundation before we got here. He just seemed like a great guy, great family and we’re just so blessed that they did this for us.”"
Jackson says it’s his way to thank the families of those who serve their nation.
"“I’m a first-time mom, so I don’t know anything,” said Kayla Ainsworth, whose husband is in the Air Force. “The fact that there’s someone who would do all of this for us is just awesome. I mean, it’s amazing.”"
If nothing else, it’s great to see that not all NFL players make their headlines through their misbehaving.
