Tennessee Titans ‘Would Expect’ QB Jake Locker To Start This Week
By Phil Watson
Tennessee Titans quarterback Jake Locker has missed the last two NFL games with a thumb injury, but coach Ken Whisenhunt expects Locker to start Sunday.
The Tennessee Titans fell to the Washington Redskins Sunday 19-17 to fall to 2-5, but Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt told reporters that quarterback Jake Locker should be ready to return to the starting lineup next week.
Locker has missed the last two games with a thumb injury and the Titans have gone 1-1 with Charlie Whitehurst at the helm. Tennessee hosts the Houston Texans next Sunday at LP Field.
"“I would expect [Locker] being able to go next week, but until we get out there are practice, I don’t know that for sure,” Whisenhunt told reporters, via The Tennessean."
Locker practiced last week, but Whisenhunt said the quarterback’s thumb was sore after doing so.
"“Obviously you worry about him turning the ball over and putting one on the ground if you miss a snap or do something with ball handling,” Whisenhunt said. “That’s ultimately what made the decision.”"
Locker has started four games this season, also missing their Week 4 loss at Indianapolis.
He has completed 58 percent of his passes for 764 yards and four touchdowns with four interceptions in his four starts, and also has run for 107 yards and a score on 18 carries.
Injuries have been a recurring theme since he became the Titans’ starter in 2012, his second NFL season. He started 11 games that season and was limited to seven last year because of an injured foot.
The Titans are 9-13 in his 22 career starts.
