Although Aaron Gordon is a very talented athlete, most feel the Magic had to have been disappointed they didn’t land one of the top three players in the draft – former Kansas Jayhawks‘ swingman Andrew Wiggins and center Joel Embiid or former Duke Blue Devils‘ forward Jabari Parker. All three are looked at as potential superstars.
However, there are some the feel Aaron Gordon is as good as any of them and he is even drawn comparisons to Los Angeles Clippers‘ star power forward Blake Griffin.
“When Blake Griffin entered the league, many considered him to be more of a freak athlete than complete NBA player. But over time Griffin developed a better feel for the game, along with improving his shooting and other skills, which has turned him into a legitimate MVP type of player,” Jesse Blancarte of Basketball Insiders explained. “Rookies tend to struggle with consistency over the long 82 game season, and I expect Gordon will too. But like Griffin, Gordon is a hard worker and I expect his game will improve quickly. I too think Gordon could end up being the top player from this year’s draft, but for now I have guys like Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, Marcus Smart and Julius Randle ahead of him in terms of the impact they can have this season.”
That’s awful high praise for a player like Aaron Gordon, who is still trying to get a feel for the game. Blake Griffin is a legitimate superstar and finished third in MVP voting behind Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant and Cleveland Cavaliers (then Miami Heat) forward LeBron James.
