The Calgary Flames has nailed down defenseman T.J. Brodie with a five-year extension on his contract.

The new deal will begin after his current contract expires this season, and will see Brodie in a Flames uniform through the 2019-20 season.

Brodie was originally drafted by the Calgary Flames in the fourth round (114th overall) in the 2008 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

T.J. Brodie began his journey on the main roster in the 2010-11 season. Brodie played in just three games that season and was unfortunately unable to find the back of the net.

This number jumped exponentially in the 2011-12 season when Brodie suited up for 54 games with the Flames where he amassed 2 goals and 12 assists for a total of 14 points. He would repeat this same production in the 2012-13 season with the exception of suiting up for only 47 games.

Last season, Brodie suited up for all but one of the Calgary Flames’ games last season. In that amount of time, he was able to net 4 goals and 27 assists for a total of 31 points for the season.

It would seem as if Brodie is off to a pretty good start so far this season. He has played in seven games with the Flames so far this season in which he has already notched 3 goals and 4 assists for a total of 7 points and a plus-5 rating.

The financial details of Brodie’s new deal were not disclosed by the team; however, according to Cap Geek, Brodie will receive $4.65 million a season for a total of $23,250,000. That’s definitely not a bad deal for the 24 year old defenseman.

What are your thoughts on the Brodie extension? What do you think he brings to the table for Calgary? How many points do you think he’ll notch this season? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
