Jarred Evans of the Cincinnati Bearcats appeared in court Monday following his arrest early Sunday morning on assault charges.

Jarred Evans, a backup quarterback for the Cincinnati Bearcats, was arraigned Monday on charges of misdemeanor assault stemming from an alleged incident in the early morning hours Sunday after the team returned from Dallas.

The Bearcats beat SMU 41-3 on Saturday, but Evans, 22, was booked into the Hamilton County Jail at 3:25 a.m. Sunday—hours after the team had returned from Texas—for allegedly punching a man and knocking him to the ground.

A municipal court judge set Evans’ bail at $2,000 and ordered him to stay away from the alleged victim. Evans told the judge he did not know the other man.

A pre-trial hearing was scheduled for Nov. 4.

In a statement, a spokesman for the university athletic department said coach Tommy Tuberville is aware of the incident.

"“(Tuberville) is in the process of gathering information. It would be inappropriate to comment at this time.”"

Evans, a junior from Queens, N.Y., led the Bearcats with 67 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries and was also 2-for-2 passing for 10 yards.

Cincinnati snapped a three-game losing streak with the win. For the season, Evans has 110 rushing yards and a touchdown on 22 carries and is 2-for-5 for 10 yards passing. He has played in four of the Bearcats’ six games.
