The Boston Red Sox aren’t in the World Series, but that didn’t stop slugger David Ortiz from surprising three veterans with a personal tour of Fenway Park, and tickets to Game One of the World Series.
It’s admittedly part of a sponsorship program between MLB and Bank of America, but this is still pretty cool. Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz surprised (and startled) three U.S. military veterans yesterday with an all-access tour of Fenway Park, lead by Ortiz himself, and tickets to Game One of the World Series, which will feature the San Francisco Giants and Kansas City Royals tonight at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, MO.

The three service members were not informed of much ahead of time, only being told to be at the park by 9 a.m. As you can see in the video below, the veterans were looking out at the field from the dugout when Ortiz comes up from the clubhouse tunnel, including startling one of them. All three seem completely in awe of what’s happening to them, and Ortiz, and that’s fun to see.
At one point, Ortiz points to dents on Fenway’s green monster, and claims he did that to the wall, and later he ends up playing catch with them on the field, which is something Red Sox fans don’t get to see often, although Ortiz did play five games at first base in 2014. All in all, it’s a pretty cool gesture, and a fun video to watch:
