Madison Bumgarner broke Salvador Perez‘s bat to get a key double play in Game 1 of the World Series as the San Francisco Giants take on the Kansas City Royals.

The San Francisco Giants are looking to steal Game 1 of the World Series in Kauffman Stadium against the Kansas City Royals. In their efforts to do so, their lineup staked staff ace Madison Bumgarner to an early 3-0 lead.
Bumgarner made the lead stand up in the early innings, but not without some traffic on the bases. In order to escape from one potential jam, Bumgarner got a pitch in on the hands of Royals’ catcher Salvador Perez to shatter his bat.
The result was a weak roller to the mound for an inning-ending double play. Check out the slow motion shot of just exatly what Bumgarner did to Perez’s bat:
This also did not represent the first point in this game that Bumgarner helped himself with a nice defensive play, as he snared a hot comeback line drive early in this game as well.
Bumgarner’s side-winding action is tough on left-handed and right-handed hitters alike. With this pitch on the hands of Perez, the lefty showed just how uncomfortable he can make things for hitters,
