Tiger Woods, who had back surgery March 31 and played just seven events in 2014 because of it, is still hoping to play Dec. 4-7 in the Hero World Challenge at Isleworth in Orlando in a tournament that benefits his charity foundation. His doctors had previously restricted him to just chipping and putting, but now Tiger Woods is hitting full shots.
“The doctors said he could hit golf balls again, and he’s listening to his doctors and to his body,” Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, told USA TODAY Sports on Monday. “He will keep listening to his doctors and body.
” … He’s feeling pretty good.”
At the Bridgestone Invitational over the summer, Tiger Woods fell back into a bunker and injured his back, which was supposedly not related to his surgery, but he withdrew in the final round. His doctors advised him to rest for several months.
Two weeks after announcing his break from tournament golf, Woods split with swing coach Sean Foley. He has not said if he will be working with another instructor in the near future.
Reports have also surfaced that caddie Steve Williams, who was formerly with Tiger Woods from 1999-2011, has said that he would caddie again for the former No. 1 and 14-time major winner again if he asked, but Woods has not made any comment.
Tiger Woods is now 38-years-old and if he wants to chase down the PGA Tour wins record, which he trails by three to Sam Snead (82) and the all-time majors record, which he sits four behind Jack Nicklaus (18), he really needs to start to kick it in gear. Injuries have limited him since 2009, and he needs to get to a point where he’s healthy enough to finish a whole season and get himself some big wins.
Since Tiger Woods has taken a break, he has made visits to Bluejack National, his first U.S. golf course design. It sits 40 miles north of Houston and is prepared to open in the fall of 2015.
Tiger Woods’s Hero World Challenge begins Dec. 4 at Isleworth Country Club in Orlando.
