The San Francisco Giants have everything rolling in Game 1 of the 2014 World Series.
They scored early and often against James Shields, chasing the man with “Big Game” in his nickname in the fourth inning. Their ace Madison Bumgarner is dealing. Finally, they have stretched out their lead in the late innings to make the opening game of the World Series a blowout.
Rookie second baseman Joe Panik got in the mix, delivering an RBI triple to the right-center field gap to make the score 6-0 in favor of the Giants. He did get an assist from a less-than-optimal route from right fielder Nori Aoki.
With this miniature rally, the Giants finally did damage against Danny Duffy, who otherwise did an outstanding job coming out of the Royals’ bullpen in long relief.
Joe Panik is a rookie who was not even in the Giants’ lineup for much of the season. Now he is batting second in the World Series and delivering RBI triples.
Even years. It’s an even year and this is the Giants.
