The San Francisco Giants entered a hostile situation on Tuesday night in Game 1 of the World Series against the Kansas City Royals. All they did in response was put up three runs in the first inning against James Shields to stake their staff ace to an early lead.
Madison Bumgarner has been the best pitcher of these playoffs. In the bottom of the first inning, he helped his own cause by snaring this comeback line drive off the bat of Nori Aoki.
After making this catch, Bumgarner made it clear that he is all about business in these playoffs. He refused to even throw the ball around the horn, keeping it instead and toeing the rubber to face the next hitter.
This pitching match-up seemed to favor the Giants from the start, and only more so after the Giants roughed up Shields in the top of the first inning. If Bumgarner keeps up his good work from the postseason so far, it bodes well for the Giants to take a 1-0 series lead.
