The Kansas City Royals have a jazzed fan base, home field advantage, and a team that is ready to deliver in the World Series. You could feel the buzz in Kauffman Stadium as Game 1 of the 2014 World Series got underway and the Royals tried to start the process of winning their first World Series title in 29 years.
The San Francisco Giants had other plans, however. They jumped on “Big Game” James Shields early and often in Game 1, chasing him before he could even make it through four innings of work.
After a three-run first inning, the Giants extended the damage even further in the top of the 4th inning. One of the key hits came from slugger Michael Morse.
The big man is serving as designated hitter for the Giants for their road games in this series. Having delivered a huge tying home run in the NLCS, Morse continued his contributions in the World Series on Tuesday with this RBI single against Shields.
Morse didn’t exactly square that pitch up, but his hands were strong enough to muscle a bloop single into center field to drive in the run.
One heck of a start for the Giants in the 2014 World Series.
