Fantasy Football: Bryce Brown And Doug Baldwin Are Worth Your Waiver Claim

Just a reminder that I use ESPN Leagues for determining the percentage of people that own these players and these players will be listed in order of the players that I would pick up to help your team now. I realize some of you are in dynasty leagues and are curious who to stash for those types of leagues, so I will make a dynasty pickup category that lists the players that I like for that as well. However, this is going to be focused on redraft leagues because we are in Week 8 and the stakes are win or go home. Let’s hit the waiver adds!

Owned in 50% or less of ESPN Leagues:

1.) Bryce Brown, RB, Buffalo Bills (1.3% of ESPN Leagues)

Perhaps I’m buying too much into pure talent and not basing it off of situation, but in my case talent will always win out. Bryce Brown is currently only owned in 1.3% of ESPN Leagues and he is clearly the most talented player on your waiver wire. Brown was considered the best running back since Adrian Peterson to come out of high school and it just hasn’t full translated yet. Remember, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Bryce Brown, and that is exactly what makes me so excited for him in Spiller’s and Jackson’s absence. In his short career, Brown has managed to rush for 100 yards three times and he has managed to score 5 touchdowns in those games. However, Brown has a fumbling issue, which could be to lead to his detriment.

If Brown can clean up his fumbling issue, he may be able to keep his Buffalo job, as C.J. Spiller becomes a free agent at the end of the season. This may be a stretch for the former 7th rounder, but some people in the media believe it’s already a done deal.

2.) Tre Mason, RB, St. Louis Rams (2.3% of ESPN Leagues)

I fell in love with Mason’s physical running style coming out of the draft, as he reminded me of a younger, faster, and smaller Marshawn Lynch. We aren’t to the point of crowning him the next Marshawn Lynch yet, because that would be crazy at this point in his career. However, for the time being, he seems to be the new lead back for the St. Louis Rams, which comes as a surprise because nobody believed in his pass blocking ability. If you asked anyone if he was capable of being an every down back in this league one day, the answer would have been “Yes, but he has to learn how to pass protect.” Well, apparently something has changed in Mason’s pass protection ability because he saw the majority of the Rams carries  this week against the Seahawks. Can it keep up? I hope so, but the Rams could easily go back to Benny Cunningham or even Zac Stacy next week, and then the Mason pick up doesn’t make sense. I’m a little worried about that.

3.) Denard Robinson, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars (0.5% of ESPN Leagues)

Could it be? Well, I went back, watched the film and I noticed nothing really different in Robinson’s style. He just had room to run. But when you give a runner like Denard room to run, with his speed you can forget about stopping him. If you look at the stats, you’d realize that Cleveland allows the 4th most fantasy points to opposing running backs this season. So is this going to be consistent or just a one-hit wonder? Right now, I’m going to label him as a one-hit wonder until I see more production from him. For now, you can add him in any league that you need a running back, but I wouldn’t start him in any formats this week against Miami.

4.) Doug Baldwin, WR, Seattle Seahawks (19.4% of ESPN Leagues)

The beneficiary of the Percy Harvin trade is going to be Doug Baldwin and I’ll promise that this isn’t a one time game for him. If Seattle wants any chance of having success this season, they have to utilize players where they are best and that’s what they did with having Baldwin operate out of the slot this week. Remember, Baldwin isn’t going to consistently give you seven catches for 123 yards and a touchdown on a weekly basis, but you should expect Baldwin to be the best and start becoming more productive in PPR leagues.

5.) Martavis Bryant, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers (0.4% of ESPN Leagues)

Martavis Bryant! I was impressed with how well he played in his first NFL game, producing double digit fantasy points. Bryant may have put himself in the good graces of Mike Tomlin after giving the Steelers the wide receiver two production that they have been calling for the last couple weeks. Bryant isn’t going to be a player that you will be rushing to put into your lineup this week, but there is a chance he could be a solid play at Indianapolis.

Dynasty League Adds:

1.) Davante Adams, WR, Green Bay Packers (1.1% of ESPN Leagues)

The more that I hear from Aaron Rodgers, the more I believe that Randall Cobb likely won’t be around next season. However, if you’ve watched the games, you’d see that Randall Cobb is currently second in the league in touchdowns, which is hard to let go of. But  Rodgers has spoken highly about Davante every single week when talking with the media and the fans. Rodgers always says how he goes back through the film and every week realizes that Adams was wide open again. If Rodgers is noticing an open Adams, you better believe that Adams is coming into Rodgers good graces.

2.) Donte Moncrief, WR, Indianapolis Colts (0.2% of ESPN Leagues)

I’m waiting for the Colts to figure out that Donte Moncrief is young and is just a flat out better football player than the quickly fading Hakeem Nicks. I haven’t gotten back to rewatching the Colts game yet, but I’m told Moncrief was replacing Nicks on some early passing plays. That could be an indication that the Colts are beginning to figure it out. Once they realize that and play him, Moncrief can be put into your lineup being a valuable weapon for quickly developing young quarterback, Andrew Luck.
